About the author

A journey of faith, healing, and love.

I am a Roman Catholic and a lay member of the Teresian Carmelite Order. Before becoming an author, I was a nurse and social worker.

“Let me be a Mother to you.”

I eventually converted to the Roman Catholic Church after a visit to Walsingham in 1987, while exploring the Norfolk countryside on a birdwatching holiday.

I visited the Anglican shrine and sat in the replica of the Holy House. I spoke to Our Lady—and she spoke to me. Being a little shaken, I sought the advice of the priest in charge, who reassured me that the experience was genuine.

I had carried deep spiritual pain for a long time. She told me that I had a terrible spiritual wound and that she would pray for me. She asked me to give myself to Our Lord in faith and trust, saying, “Let me be a Mother to you.”

I entered the Roman Catholic Church in 1997, became a lay member of the Teresian Carmelite Order, and in 2007 went to Lourdes. I asked my loving Mother to take this awful pain away—and she did. I could not even remember what it was like.

A life of beauty

Music, nature, and the creatures she loves.

01

Music, ballet & opera

I love classical music—especially J.S. Bach, Rachmaninov, Chopin, Vaughan Williams, Glazunov, Brahms, Ravel and Fauré. I also love classical ballet, including Swan Lake and The Sleeping Beauty. My favourite operas are Tosca and La Traviata.

02

Choral works

For choral music, I choose Bach’s St John Passion—that menacing beginning—Handel’s Messiah, and Brahms’ Requiem.

03

Nature

I treasure country walks, birdwatching, and the scent of flowers—especially the exquisite perfume of old rose varieties.

04

Animals

I love cats, dogs and donkeys. Mistletoe is my adopted donkey, and I contribute to her feed, dental and foot care so that she is comfortable in retirement.

A charity close to her heart

Safe Haven for Donkeys in the Holy Land

The charity works in Gaza, the West Bank, and the brick kilns of Egypt—keeping donkeys well, healing wounds, and teaching owners how to care for these animals. Wonderful work.
